Efficiency Programs & Rebates
NPU offers programs uniquely designed for our business customers. We don't believe in a "one size fits all" approach. Instead, each program is customized for the size and nature of the business, starting with a free energy analysis of your facility. Please click here for more information.
Sustainable Business Programs:
Lighting Retrofit Program
Upgrading your facility's lighting is the first step towards making your building more energy efficient. Replacing inefficient incandescent lighting with compact fluorescent lights (CFLs) and high-efficient linear fluorescent tubes is an inexpensive investment that offers a fast payback. Contact NPU for more information about available lighting rebates.
Cool Choice Central Air Rebate Program
The Cool Choice Central Air Conditioning Rebate Program promotes significant energy savings, lower cooling costs and a positive impact on the environment. Rebates are available to NPU's commercial, industrial, institutional, agricultural and residential electric service customers to help defray the cost of buying high-efficiency HVAC systems.
VFDs and ECMs Upgrade Incentive (Rebate) Program
Programs are subject to change or cancellation without notice. Rebates and incentives are based on the efficiency of the equipment purchased.
Norwich Public Utilities offers ZERO-PERCENT FINANCING to qualifying commercial and industrial customers who make improvements and upgrades that increase energy efficiency and lower energy use.

NPU offers its commercial customers incentives (rebates) for switching to natural gas, a clean, versatile and always available heating source. Contact Energy Services at 860-823-4514 to learn if natural gas is available in your area.

Norwich Public Utilities (NPU) has a long-standing commitment to renewable energy, with more than 6% of the electricity delivered to our customers coming from our hydro-power facilities. NPU has also installed a number of solar power systems on city-owned properties which allows the City of Norwich to save money on their energy costs while providing educational opportunities for students in the community.
We are in the midst of developing a comprehensive solar power project and have been very encouraged by the initial feedback from the community. We are excited about a proposal that could provide the City of Norwich with new tax revenue as well as giving our customers access to additional renewable power.
Under this plan, which is being developed in partnership with the Connecticut Municipal Electric Energy Cooperative (CMEEC), a private developer would lease the proposed site where the solar energy will be generated, which in turn will be made available to NPU customers seamlessly as part of their regular electricity service.
Working with CMEEC, NPU has identified the former Roger’s Road landfill as an ideal location for a ‘community solar garden’ that could provide NPU customers with an additional 2.75 MW of renewable energy. We are hopeful that this project will be moving forward in the months ahead with a potential groundbreaking in early 2015.
While NPU does not offer rebates for residential or commercial solar projects, we do support the installation of private solar energy systems. All systems require an interconnection agreement with NPU prior to installation in order for them to be tied into our distribution system.
Residential and commercial customers can take advantage of partnerships NPU has established with a number of local lenders and the State of Connecticut to support solar projects.
