NPU construction Downtown week of June 18th

Norwich Public Utilities (NPU) will install the piping and infrastructure for an underground natural gas regulating station at the intersection of Broadway and Chestnut Street in Downtown Norwich to improve its overall system reliability.

The construction will take place between 7:00 pm and 5:00 am, beginning on June 18 and running through Friday morning, June 23. This work has been scheduled to minimize any impact on traffic Downtown and will not require any roads to be closed.

The regulator station, which will be installed in August, will have a footprint of approximately 6 feet by 15 feet and will be underground in the grass median at the foot of Broadway, adjacent to Chestnut Street. Once the project is completed, any impacted sections of the road will be milled and paved.

The new station will help improve the efficiency of NPU’s natural gas system that serves homes and businesses in the Downtown area of Norwich and help NPU to meet increased natural gas demand in the city.
